Contacts Lens Theory & Application (204)

Hello,

I very much enjoyed the first week if class, the introduction to inserting/removal of contact lenses. I was very nervous in the beginning because I never ever worn CLs before. I was glad to have Theresa there, she was great at guiding and being supportive through the process. I wish we can do it a little more for practice as well.

Last week, using the keratometry was a learning curve especially using the testing balls at first it was very simple just because it’s not a real patient and its spherical. Once we got to take the K-readings on each other it was really good practice ! Looking forward to practicing more as well .

Hello,

Dispensing I , is my favorite class this semester . I love how we got so much hands on experience with each other to get us ready for real patients at the store ! The mock questionnaires and the PD practice has been great ! Experiencing taking Andrea versus Melanies with the difference in color eyes really helped to see how difficult and precise you have to be when taking PD for very dark eyed person ! Picking out frames for certain face shapes really helped as well !

Hello,

Contact Lens Theory II was a further informative course from the first one ! It had new information but it really helps with NCLE studying . I personally find dispensing and fabrication more intriguing to me but like Maryann said it’s great to have that knowledge if we ever wanted to pursue in the contacts field directly . I’m very looking forward to inserting CLs on each other next semester, it was delayed due to covid but I think we are saving the best for last . I personally don’t wear contact and never have , so it will be a learning curve for myself! Looking forward to next semester! Almost graduation !

Hello,

This semester for Fabrication II has been a roller coaster especially with COVID on our minds and making sure we were able to get everything down ! I can say that I really learned a lot from this course that I would think was impossible on the first day of the semester ! I’m very proud on how truly we got everything down and the help we always had by Rebecca ! Edging was my favorite this semester ! I felt so happy when I made my first pair of glasses LOL ! I can’t wait to apply this work next semester at the store !

Fabrication II , is the most challenging class this semester in my opinion . Challenging but very interesting , I would say that I’ve understood the material throughout the semester it just gets complicated to apply all the steps in the correct manner . There’s times I feel very confident in what I’m doing and that I get stuck because I overthink and stress myself out ! I can say I really appreciate Rebecca always being there to answer any questions regardless of how dumb they can be lol ! Unfortunately COVID has changed a lot in class , I always wonder how different it would be if we didn’t have to have all these guidelines!

Hello ,

Dispensing I , is a great course in my opinion everything is very hands on ! Learning how to take PDs, and acting out in the shop really helps get comfortable for when we are in front of a real patient ! Picking out frames for our peers is also great practice ! Makes me wonder how picky and indecisive it can be with a real patient ! At my current job I see patients always ask the optician their opinion (especially the older people ) instead of actually expressing their opinions on the frame . I’m looking forward to actually having a pt , makes me excited !

Hello,

Contacts Lens theory II is a more intense course than the one we took last semester! Not my favorite so far; maybe because it’s online and I like a more in hands class . Apart from that it is a lot of information , but the assignments like the blogs are my favorite, especially reading everyone’s post I get to learn more from my peers . Powerpoints are also very much fun to do , it gets you involved and as you do it we are actually recording and understanding the material even more !

Hello,

Fabrication II is a very hands on, basically applying what we’ve learned. Connecting all the dots with the information we learned is really starting to make more sense. The lensometer has been very effective as well, looking at the lenses has been a routine memorized now, the only thing i do practice is reading the power drum, making sure I’m as close to the correct reading can sometimes be frustrating for me. I did take a picture and drew out a number line to help me as well. Side note: It’s great to have Rebecca again after so long ! I really appreciate how she’s always able to help at anytime.

Hello,

Part II for this course so far has been very complex and informative, and less packed course compare to the first course LOL ! Let me not jinx it right ! Week 2 has been my favorite week so far, I find it so interesting learning in regards to disorders and the effects/ symptoms that contribute to it. I always find myself googling images of the disorders, it helps painting a picture to the name. Becoming more familiar with the image helps me remember the specific disorder. I personally also find this course very informative because for a person who never wore contact lenses it helps me really understand the dangers and factors that contribute when deciding to start your CLs journey.

Hello,

I really enjoyed this course because it’s very hands on ! After a long online summer semester, I’m glad to be in the classroom. I enjoy seeing everyone again, it’s great to be together again finally ! LOL So far the adjustment of the temples, and dismounting/ mounting the eyeglasses has been very straightforward ! I think getting timed today made me nervous, just the thought of trying to be perfect under pressure. I did good on my own but I need to overcome my nerves. I’m looking forward to learn more and practicing to really get everything down.
