VCT 208

Hello,

This class overall has been very informative on the side of management and financial. I’ve taken classes similar to this one but this is the best beneficial in particular to the career of choice. My favorite class this semester ! I love how creative all of us got with our presentation ! It most definitely brought the creative side of me out, making a Prezi is very fun btw ! Stepping out of my comfort zone really was with this class. No complaints about this class at all LOL. I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the fall !

Hello,

Final week ! This semester has been a roller coaster I keep saying, also this year LOL. COVID has really affected every aspect of our lives but I’m very fortunate to been able to take online classes and proceed with this program. I’ve taken so much from this class, even being online I’ve learned how to adjust and transition in the worst scenarios. I really looking forward for part II in class of course ! I miss our professors and peers. I hope we can all apply this more easier once its hand on. Looking forward to this break and to the beginning off a fresh start in the fall !

P.S I can’t wait for fall weather !

VCT 208 has been a very relatable class! I work for a medical office and a lot of the material I learned from my workplace , I was able to apply to our discussion boards and assignments. Not just speaking for myself but in general this class is a eye opening to the rule, regulations, and procedures are go along with an office. I understand more clearly why it;s so important to follow all rules and how it can effect you and the office as a whole. I do miss being on campus but this class was very well converted/transitioned to online. The material was very clear and well understood.

Can I get a YAYY! Almost done with the semester ! The class overall has been a true challenge with a lot of ups and downs! The math is very precise and a lot of information to digest step by step ! I can’t complain biggest classes are always going to bring the inner us we never seen before ! Apart from the work this summer has been very rocky for me, I really wish things would of been different but I’m determined to finish strong and make everyone proud ! I’m happy to also announce that I’m expecting a baby boy this December! Part of my sickness, which really explains it all ! As we get to the end of the semester I’m ready to finish strong and give it my all on this final as well ! I’m looking forwards to the review as well. I truly miss being on campus ! I can’t wait to go back.

Where do I start LOL, this class is very informative, especially with the Math which is why I wish we were on campus because it’s a very different experience virtually ! Of course whenever I need help Maryann is always an email or FT call away ! Even though the class is very heavy with a lot of information, I tried to always take my time in the readings! They hold a lot of information for each unit ! My textbook is very much highlighted and filled with sticky notes as well ! Thank god my book is for me to keep, I have used my highlighters very much lol.

With this course as well is important to never forget the steps, if you forget a step it will mess up your outcome ! Having a cheat sheet is my best friend at this moment! I have all the steps , like “don’t forget to transpose ! or SAM and FAP rules !

VCT 208 is an eye opening to the business side of our field! I have learned so much in regards to running and maintaining an optical shop. Last week the unit was on bookkeeping, to be completely honest I never really know much especially the finance part of it ! It opened my eyes to a whole new side that made me feel like I was taking a business class LOL Even though this class does not required a text, the choice of articles Maryann has chose for each unit has had very accurate and beneficial information!

I also really enjoyed how with this class I noticed how we all can use our personal experiences to share with each unit ! This class is very realistic in some of our past and current job positions! A lot of the discussion boards we all relate somehow and share our own stories which I enjoyed reading each week ! I miss on campus and hope we all can reunite soon !

VCT 102

VCT 102 on campus is very fun especially because of all the group work. In my opinion I don’t think the rubric for most assignments are detailed it’s just very general. By general I mean that it’s really up to the professor versus the rubric. Of course some of the grading I can understand where the points are being deducted when I look at the rubric but for some I don’t agree. I feel that the grading varies each week even though it’s the same rubric format.

In regards to exam one, I’m glad we got this option versus an old fashioned test. Now that I see the comments I can apply to the next one. One thing I did not understand is the grading again. I was aware that we can’t copy word for word from our notes and textbooks, I was trying to make it my own but putting it in terms that help me but got feedback other wise. Again I believe the instructions were much different than the grading. I hope to see this change a bit or have more clear instructions next time. Overall I believe this is just a learning stone and can’t wait to improve from here.

VCT 101

It’s week 7 going now on week 8 and even though its an intro class, I’ve learned a lot. This being an online class really balances my schedule but it also helps you to teach yourself. This is not my first online class but because it’s part of the Vision care program it’s something very different but complex in my opinion. In the past weeks, I found week five and six to be the most outstanding and interesting.

For week five, we learned in regards to the historical timeline of eye wear. I enjoyed learning about the first ever “eye glasses” and how it took many years to finally develop temples, 440 years after to be exact ! That’s crazy to me ! Week six the assignment regarding Asian inspired eyed wear I really much enjoyed. This assignment brought diversity and cultural perspective. It demonstrated me that it’s great to have options for certain face features and tells you that not everyone is the same. I learned also in this chapter how much a certain pair of eye glasses can fit a certain face shape! These last couple weeks been very great! Can’t wait for more.

It’s already Week 6 for our Saturday Morning class, time does go by fast ! I enjoyed this class very much which I found shocking since it was Math based. I’ve came to like Math more than expected, I’m happy with myself to see how skilled I have become to understand the material Rebecca has been giving us. The Math has been understandable especially since Rebecca breaks it down in certain portions. Splitting the work into portions has really helped me with taking the material and comprehending it little by little. The jeopardy questions I come to find out last class that is very beneficial for our midterm review! I love the idea of taking our made up questions and having us quiz each other. As far as the work we are being assigned, I think very much is manageable. The homework packets we do get help me sharpen my skills throughout the week since we are not in class all week. I have no problem at all with the homework, which I’m surprised to say LOL. Rebecca is always there via email or in person if needed, makes any questions we might have very easy to get answered. Bottom line, class is great so far ! Halfway there so far !

VCT 102 Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology of the Eye for the Optician

This Monday Evening class with Maryann is excellent not just because of the time LOL but because I enjoy going on campus and associating with my classmates. I’m used to online classes but the change of enviroment really helps me with my communication skills and it’s great to be more involved in class, it honestly helps more to comprehend the material. I enjoy the group work as well, we get to meet other classmates and get involved and creative. The hints we get on BB for our quizzes, I have to say are the absolute BEST! I never had a professor did that for us, it’s very helpful especially with the chapters being long we’ve an idea of what to focus on. The hints prepare me for the incoming quiz but also puts you ahead with getting a good grade.

As also mentioned in one of my paper’s, It was amazing to learn more about the Dollar glasses to third world countries but also having the chance to go to vision expo! I’m looking forward to that event and learning more. So far class and the material have been understandable and organized.
